COMEDIAN Hardeep Singh Kohli took a five-minute break from being funny on Tuesday night as he threw his support behind an Islington charity for the homeless. Mr Singh Kohli, speaking outside the Duke of Cambridge pub which was hosting a charity auction and dinner for charity Shelter from the Storm (SFTS), told the Tribune: “Just because you’re homeless doesn’t mean you don’t have integrity. I have to wonder if we’re a civilised country when some people don’t have a roof over their heads.”
The night raised £15,000, which will go towards opening the charity’s shelters seven nights a week.
At the moment, SFTS has two shelters – in St John’s Hall and St James crypt off Packington Street, which take a maximum of 23 guests.
Dominic Fenton, who volunteers for the charity, said: “Without the celebrities and Mr Hardeep it would not have been so much fun.”
