Schools are top class
• LIKE many Year 6 mums I’ve been looking at secondary schools for my child. I’ve now seen all the local schools – from Finsbury Park to Angel – and I am very impressed.
All the heads seem to be inspiring leaders, especially at Islington Arts and Media and Highbury Grove. All the students I met at the Business Centre’s schools open evening and also the girls who showed us round Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (EGA) and Highbury Fields were articulate, friendly and confident young people.
Indeed, EGA has just been rated as an outstanding school by Ofsted. The two new academies were fascinating to visit and Mary Mag seems to be trialling interesting ways to engage teenagers.
I am well aware many people complain about Islington schools (sometimes even without visiting them), but our experience at primary with Drayton Park has been superb. My daughter and I are looking forward to choosing a school that she can walk to. But we are finding it hard to make a choice thanks to schools’ renovation/new build programmes, the energy for learning fizzing from classrooms and the excellent staff teams headteachers are working with. It’s a shame I don’t have sextuplets so I could use each one of our excellent schools.
