Prison sentence for youth caught with imitation gun on Tube train

A TEENAGER has been jailed for a year for carrying an imitation gun at St Pancras Tube station.
The 17-year-old youth from Finsbury Park, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to charges of possession of an imitation firearm and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and was sentenced at West London Youth Court on Wednesday.
The youth was stopped and searched as he stepped off a train at St Pancras station during a British Transport Police operation on August 25.
Officers found a gun concealed in the waistband of his trousers, which was submitted for analysis.
A firearms expert later confirmed it as an imitation firearm, not capable of firing live rounds. A further search of the youth’s home uncovered 18 small bags of cocaine, hidden in a shoe under his bed, with an estimated street value of £300.
Detective Constable Paul Burbridge, one of the investigating officers, said: “It was the youth’s alarmed reaction to seeing uniformed officers on the station platform that first aroused the officers’ suspicions.
“The only reason anyone carries an imitation firearm is to intimidate others and we will not tolerate behaviour that increases the fear of crime on the Tube.”
To report someone carrying a knife or weapon on the Tube or railways, call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
