Pupils searched for fireworks at school
PUPILS are being stopped and searched by police after a teenager was excluded from school for setting off a firework in a playground. Officers have been handing out yellow slips to Holloway School pupils explaining why they have been searched following the incident last Thursday when a Year 9 pupil set off a firework during first break.
Holloway headteacher Bob Hamlyn said: “We take a very firm line with fireworks, and have already warned all students and their parents of the consequences of carrying fireworks. “There was an isolated incident earlier this week, which has been resolved. No one was injured, and a student has received a fixed-term exclusion, in line with our school policy.”
A spokeswoman for Islington Police said: “We were notified of an incident at Holloway School during the first break on October 23, where a Year 9 pupil let off a firework in the playground of the school.”
