Eviction a last resort
• I WAS disappointed to read the Tribune article in which Circle 33 is said to have acted in a “heavy-handed” manner regarding a recent eviction and would like to assure readers that eviction is only ever a last resort (Evicted tenant fights on to clear her name, November 7).
In addition to making contact about arrears at an early stage and giving the tenant every opportunity to resolve the problem and reach an agreement to repay, Circle 33 also supports residents in a number of ways to raise financial awareness and help them avoid debt. These include money advice packs to all new residents, along with a one-to-one phone money guidance service and a newly introduced affordable loan scheme through our partners, Fair Finance, as well as the opportunity to be referred for detailed debt counselling if arrears arise.
We have abided by our procedures and followed due legal process.
As a not-for-profit social landlord we rely on rental income to ensure services are maintained for all our residents. Circle 33 is not in a position to be able to allow tenants to accrue large sums of arrears without action being taken.
We would like to assure readers that it is only ever our intention to do what we can to provide good-quality homes and services and help to improve the life chances of all tenants.
