Islington Tribune - by ROISIN GADELRAB

Town Hall director’s ‘big payoff’

ISLINGTON’S director of children’s services is taking early retirement amid rumours he will walk away with a pay-off close to £100,000.
Paul Curran, who has been at the Town Hall for 11 years, will step down in March next year.
It is understood an extraordinary meeting of the audit committee was held on Wednesday to agree a hefty pension and benefit package.
Mr Curran’s departure was hinted at in former finance chief Councillor Andrew Cornwell’s resignation letter.
Cllr Cornwell hit out at the Lib Dem leadership for making “unacceptable redundancy payments made to departing senior officers” and complained about the growing number of highly paid managers at the Town Hall.
Mr Curran was recently put in charge of heading an investigation into how confidential Town Hall invoices were leaked to the Tribune.
Town Hall chief executive John Foster said: “I applaud Paul’s huge contribution to the lives of young people in Islington.
“It’s largely down to Paul that we have a network of 16 new and refurbished Children’s Centres, strongly improved school results and better safeguarding of our children.”
