Lights switch-on reaches fever pitch!
FOOTBALL fanatic Nick Hornby dropped into Highbury Barn to switch on the Christmas lights after watching Arsenal beat Wigan on Saturday. Mr Hornby, who lives in the area, joined residents, traders, councillors and BBC political editor Nick Robinson for the annual festivities, helping illuminate the shopping parade at the touch of a button.
Islington Council deputy leader councillor Terry Stacy, who organised the event along with Highbury Barn traders, said: “It was a great success. We had even more people than the year before, when Clive Anderson turned on the lights. St Joan of Arc Church choir was excellent. They sang about 25 carols. Nick Hornby said a few words about how important Highbury Barn is to local residents.”
