Student’s Neighbour Day plan has everyone talking
A PACKED meeting – with two leading Lib Dem councillors present – has discussed plans for Highbury’s first Celebrate Your Neighbour Day next month.
University student Katherine Wratten, who is behind the bold scheme to get people talking to their neighbours, was delighted with the response from the community.
Lib Dem councillor Laura Willoughby and Lib Dem finance chief Councillor John Gilbert offered their support at the St Joan of Arc Church meeting on Tuesday. Islington North Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn has said he would like to help on Celebrate Your Neighbour Day on Saturday, February 7. Volunteers will be urged to look out for people who may be facing the hardships of loneliness, old age, unemployment and financial insecurity.
Cllr Willoughby said: “These are difficult times for everyone and I’m pleased that Katherine has been so community minded. We should all remember our neighbours, particular elderly people on their own. Are they warm enough? Do they have enough food?”
