We check dust levels
• EXTENSIVE measures are being taken to stop disruption and pollution from the City of London Academy site in Islington (Dust-up at school site, January 16).
Dust suppression techniques have been put in place and air quality monitoring is being conducted.
Demolition took place over the summer to limit disruption to school pupils. During this time the council received one complaint relating to dust and appropriate action was taken. The site is continually monitored by the council’s pollution projects team, including analysis of noise and dust monitoring. So far the agreed target limits have not been broken.
An officer from the Health and Safety Executive visited the site in September and reported that satisfactory arrangements had been made for the safety of the children.
In addition, developer Galliford Try has offered cleaning of cars and windows to surrounding residents. This is not a mandatory duty but has been offered as a courtesy. Any residents wishing to take advantage of this can do so by contacting the site office.
Overall, we’re very pleased with the way this project is proceeding.
People with concerns about construction-related matters on this or any other site can ring the council on 020 7527 3258.
