Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 13 February 2009

How we beat cold

• CANONBURY Primary School was open on Monday and Tuesday last week along with other schools mentioned in your article (Salute to teachers and pupils who beat snow, February 6). We had practically a full complement of staff. One teacher spent an hour-and-a-half coming in from Hornsey.
We didn’t have normal lessons on Monday as there were not many children in. We had a snowman-making competition first thing, then did various activities, including “Everybody Draw”.
Children watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, for a snowy theme, which they all really enjoyed.
The cook was unable to get in through the snow so the teaching partners did a fantastic job of serving baked potatoes and baked beans for lunch (with fruit for pudding) and did all the washing-up by hand.
It was back to normal school on the Tuesday, although all children brought packed lunches.
