From flood to fixed leak
• YOUR article (From leak to flood, and a £15,000 bill, February 13) quotes a resident on Weston Rise estate as saying “the council sent a qualified plumber from Kier-Islington”.
Kier-Islington simply turned off the water supply; it was the tenants’ management organisation (TMO) who sent in the plumber who fixed the leak.
One family (not two as stated in your article) went into a hotel for the weekend as their home was so badly flooded. This was arranged and paid for by the TMO, as Homes for Islington only offered to put this family into a homeless hostel, which we did not think was acceptable.
I and another member of the TMO board visited the other two worst-affected flats and asked if they needed to spend the weekend in a hotel. The offer was declined. We obviously regret the flood, damage to property and inconvenience to residents, but I feel the TMO acted promptly to remedy the situation, something not reflected in your article.
