Mystery of ‘missing minutes’
TOWN Hall leader James Kempton has been accused of “rewriting history” following the mysterious disappearance of a Lib Dem document confirming plans to raise council tax.
The paper, bearing councillor Kempton’s name, was produced following a pre-budget executive meeting and recommends the Lib Dems abandon promises of a council tax freeze and instead back a 1.8 per cent increase to win Green councillor Katie Dawson’s casting vote.
But when the minutes were approved at last week’s executive meeting, the papers recorded that the ruling party had recommended a council tax freeze.
Town Hall leader councillor James Kempton flatly denied knowledge of the missing document when confronted by an angry Labour councillor Phil Kelly last week. |
