Hairy journey: Gorilla joins Tube commuters
WHAT do you do when a gorilla runs amok at Highbury and Islington station in the middle of the rush hour?
King Kong was joined in his antics on the station’s forecourt by a shabby Godzilla, much to the delight of commuters. The gorilla was there to promote the new play, Men of Monsters, at the nearby Hen and Chickens theatre in St Paul’s Road.
Station supervisor Jan Dukes said: “I was trying to control the crowds and here was this gorilla cavorting about with his friend Godzilla. When we heard it was all part of a play all the staff wanted to have their picture taken with them. It was great fun.”
The play is set in 1962 as the Americans and Soviets are on the brink of war. In Hollywood, they’re making a monster movie, King Kong Vs Godzilla.
Described as a fast and witty new comedy, the drama is about the people making the film and the actors in the monster costumes, who share worrying personality traits with their on-screen counterparts.
Men of Monsters runs until April 11 (Tuesday-Saturday) at 7.15pm, with 3pm matinees on April 4 and 11. To book tickets, priced £12, call 020 7704 2001. |
