Father found hanged on Boxing Day

Body discovered in park after dispute with ex-partner about Christmas present for son

A YOUNG father hanged himself from a tree in a park on Boxing Day after his ex-partner criticised a present he gave his son for Christmas, an inquest has heard.
Kevin O’Leary, 26, was found dead at Whittington Park, in Holloway, by a dog walker.
Mr O’Leary, a crane operator from St John Grove in Holloway, had bought his son a red bicycle but was told by the boy’s mother it was below standard because it was a display model with some scratches.
The St Pancras inquest was told Mr O’Leary had on another occasion taken an overdose of painkillers after becoming depressed about his acne.
The dead man’s sister, Suzan, said: “He was upset about his son. He gave him a bike.
“He said it was an ex-display, there were scratches on it and he filled them in with his felt pen.”
She added: “He was really upset. It was just bugging him.”
She complained that her brother had been criticised on Facebook website, although she did not think he would have seen the slurs.
A photograph of Mr O’Leary’s son and his ex-partner, found on his body, had an inscription on the back that stated: “I would like to be buried with this photo.”
It added: “As the saying goes, you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”
Coroner Dr Andrew Reid said: “He was troubled by a dispute with an ex-partner in relation to a present he had left for their son. It was a dispute about the quality of the bicycle.”
Verdict: suicide.
