Chief Supt Carr
Top cop Bob set to retire with ‘record to be proud of’

POLICE Borough Commander Bob Carr is set to retire from the force.
After two-and-a-half years as “caretaker”, Islington’s top cop Chief Supt Carr is taking advantage of a pension package available to officers after 30 years’ service.
The 48-year-old said: “I’m going in May and that’s on retirement so it’s a happy going, not an enforced one. I’ve done my 30 years back in February and I’m just hanging on for a bit longer while the weather slowly improves. I feel like I’m going on a bit of high workwise and otherwise.”
Chief Supt Carr, who oversaw a staff of 900, said he is considering “opportunities elsewhere”.
He added: “I’m going to take a break and consider my options for a couple of months.
“After that I’ll be attacking something else with renewed vigour because I’m far too young to retire.”
Chief Supt Carr said the murders of teenagers Martin Dinnegan, Nassirudeen Osawe and Ben Kinsella were the lowest points of his time in Islington.
But he insisted he has thoroughly enjoyed his time, and that he is leaving the organisation “on a high”, reflected in crime figures showing a year-on-year drop in burglaries, robberies and car thefts.
Islington’s crime chief councillor Terry Stacy said: “I’m sorry to see Bob go. He’s got a record that I think he can be proud of. Islington is a challenging borough.”
