Dog mess patrols win recruits
DOG walkers have offered to work with wardens to keep parks clean.
Dozens of residents turned up at an impromptu meeting in Finsbury on Friday after Islington Council admitted it had been using plain-clothes dog wardens to “spy” on pet owners.
Chairing the meeting at the Vibast Community Centre, in Old Street, dog owner George Topping praised the Tribune for highlighting the issue.
“Thanks to the Tribune the council were forced to admit they had used plain-clothed wardens in a two-week trial which has now ended,” he said.
“We say that, rather than have dog wardens spy on us, we want to know who they are by their uniforms and we want to work with them.
“We represent responsible dog owners who want to keep our parks and green spaces clean.” A new group set up will be liaising with dog walkers in other parts of the borough and will shortly launch borough-wide. |
