Islington’s Mayor Stefan Kasprzyk celebrates Career Start success with young people |
Careering ahead: Mayor toasts young achievers
YOUNG people leaving care to branch out into a life of independence have been honoured for their achievements.
The night of music, awards and art at King’s Place, York Way, last week, was organised to highlight and celebrate Career Start, an Islington Council scheme to help looked after children and care-leavers gain work experience, apprenticeships and permanent employment.
Mayor of Islington Stefan Kasprzyk presented certificates to the young people in recognition of their achievements.
An art display created by some of the care leavers involved with Career Start, portraying what the scheme means to them, was also on show.
Debora Tesfu, 22, who helped to organise the event, said: “I’ve had a few jobs so have got a lot of work experience on my CV. Career Start really builds your confidence.”
Career Start, which began in 2005, has found 170 work opportunities in the council’s departments and with contractors. |
