Asbestos work kills electrician
A RETIRED electrician died from asbestos-related disease after working without protective clothing, an inquest heard yesterday (Thursday).
Cornelius Murphy, 74, of Highbury New Park, and originally from Deptford, died in Whittington Hospital on January 29 after several years fighting lung disease.
His widow Kerry heard
St Pancras Coroner Dr Andrew Reid return a verdict of industrial death.
Referring to Mr Murphy’s own account, Dr Reid said: “He describes his employment history with one employer in particular during which he was exposed to fibres and dust and did not have any protective equipment or clothing to protect him from inhaling those fibres.”
Primary cause of death was pleural plaques, an exclusively asbestos-related disease, and lung cancer, also as a result of asbestos.
Dr Reid said: “Both his conditions were related to asbestos caused by his exposure to asbestos through his employment with a named employer.”
The firm was not named in court. |
