The reopened shop in Holloway
Shop reopens after fatal shooting

Detectives appeal for information on motorbike gunmen who launched random attack

THE shop where a man and his son were gunned down has reopened.
Ahmet Paytak, 50, died when he was shot by helmet-wearing gunmen on a motorbike at the Euro Wine and Food shop in Hornsey Road, Holloway, last month.
His son, Huseyin, 21, who was shot in the leg, is recovering but is still in a wheelchair.
The owner of the shop, who did not wish to be named, admitted he was scared but had reopened the shop less than a month after the killing because he needed to make a living. It has been renamed Tollington Mini Market and floral tributes to Mr Paytak, who worked there, moved from the shop front.
Detective Chief Inspector Carl Mehta has urged anyone with information about the shootings to come forward, insisting that the shots fired were indiscriminate and could have hit anyone in the shop that night.
“I desperately need people to talk to us,” he said. “This crime impacts on all of us. The randomness with which the gunmen carried out the attack – there could have been an innocent member of the public in there who could also have been a victim.”
Police believe Mr Paytak, a father-of-three from Skinner Street, Finsbury, was caught in the crossfire between rival Turkish drug-dealing gangs from neighbouring boroughs.
“Here we have an innocent person who was shot and two potentially violent people out there that must be stopped and put before the courts and put away,” Det Chief Insp Mehta added.
He confirmed that police were investigating whether the intended victim was “connected” to the shop. “I am still clear that the victims were wrongly targeted and that it might be someone connected with that shop who was the actual target,” he said.
“I’m confident that the investigation is progressing well and that we are pursuing lines of investigation that are likely to identify the reason for the shooting.”
Police are still searching for the motorbike used in the attack, a rare Benelli TNT 899, known to have been stolen in Holborn in October last year and since used for criminal purposes.
Det Chief Insp Mehta pledged to treat any information in confidence and promised to offer complete support to witnesses. Anyone with information can call the incident room on 020 8345 3734 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
