Cracking! Egg hunt at block’s leisure space opening
AN Easter egg hunt and the official switching on of a brand new water feature heralded the opening of a £350,000 outdoor space in Finsbury.
The celebrations on Sunday marked the completion of the new area attached to the 19-storey Gambier House tower block on Lever Street.
The space, which offers a gardening club and encourages outdoor play, has been completely redeveloped by Homes for Islington, EC1 New Deal for Communities and Islington Council’s Playbuilder scheme.
Where children and older residents previously had no access to outdoor space on their doorstep, they are now able to make use of a new play area for older children with climbing nets, a playful water feature near the entrance to the estate, new seating areas and a transformed garden with a range of shrubbery and newly planted trees.
