Seven up: Tina takes on marathon challenge
TINA Searle, chief executive of the Clerkenwell-based Crafts Central, is set to run her seventh Marathon – her second London Marathon, to raise money for sufferers of Parkinson’s disease.
Tina, 49, hopes to raise £3,000 for the Parkinson’s Society by going the distance across the capital next week in memory of her parents, who both died of Parkinson’s-related illnesses.
Tina said: “My father, Harry, was badly afflicted with Parkinson’s and my mother Anita had a related neurological condition. I’m very passionate about the organisation and the work they’re doing to find a cure.”
With six marathons behind her, Tina said: “Running is something I like to do anyway. It’s a really good way to keep fit and to see London. Running the marathon is a really good way do something I enjoy to raise money. “So far I’ve raised about £1,200 and I’m looking to raise about £3,000 in total.”
Tina hopes to complete the 26 miles in under four and a half hours.
She added: “I’ve got previous experience in running marathons, but I haven’t done one for a few years. It’s a challenge, but training keeps you really fit. It also means I can eat and not put on so much weight!”
