Church has lost a friend
• YOU carried a report of the sad death of Brian Morrell (Tributes as Brian Morrell is found dead at his home, April 17). We valued him as a friend and as a fellow Christian as well as for the contribution he made to the church.
For the last five years Brian had been a regular worshipper at St Andrew’s in Thornhill Square.
He served for two years on the Church Council. Brian was always willing to help. The church is open to the public every Saturday morning, and for 18 months Brian acted as steward, looking after the building and welcoming people into our church. Brian also opened up the church and rang the bell for our Sunday services and for weddings and funerals.
Brian was well known in the community and was often seen walking about or sitting in the Church Gardens or Thornhill Square Park in the warmer weather.
His funeral service was held on Maundy Thursday at St Andrew’s, with the church full of Brian’s family, friends and fellow church members. Brian succumbed to a serious depressive illness after Christmas, but we all had every hope he would make a full recovery. It was not to be.
His passing came as a great shock and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. I hope the privacy of his family will be respected at this painful time.
