Dr Graham Kings |
‘Townie’ off to be bishop
ONE of Islington’s best known vicars is swapping the inner city for the country after being appointed Bishop of Sherborne.
St Mary’s Church vicar Canon Dr Graham Kings is leaving for Dorset after nine years at his Upper Street parish. He will be consecrated bishop at Westminster Abbey on June 24 and his last Sunday at St Mary’s will be on May 17.
Dr Kings, 55, will succeed the Right Rev Tim Thornton, who became Bishop of Truro last year. He said: “It hasn’t quite sunk in. We’re both Londoners, Allie [his wife] and I, and we love Islington. We’re townies and we’re going to the countryside.”
His best memories of his time in Islington include the annual Good Friday procession. “We started that seven years ago and it’s most moving,” he said. |
