Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 May 2009

Waiting for an apology

• ON January 23, I was rudely wakened at 6.15am by bailiffs, who claimed I had refused to pay a council tax debt to Islington Council, had ignored “all previous communications” and that a court warrant for this action was made on July 17, 2008. All of these claims have now been withdrawn by the council since I had paid my council tax.
The council confirmed by letter and phone there was a liability order out against me, yet when I wrote to the court in Highbury (which had never contacted me) it passed my complaint to the council, the very people at fault.
Despite a series of letters, the council has offered no apology or provided any evidence of the summons, as requested, merely “withdrawn” the summons, costs and liability order.
