Homes Mk2: Plans for Post Office site on show
FRESH plans for a controversial flats and shops development in Islington have gone on show.
Original proposals for the Almeida Centre were criticised four years ago by neighbours, who said they were too tall and dense. Novelist Penelope Lively was among objectors.
The development at a Post Office site in Almeida Street and in Upper Street is for 76 flats, a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, half of them affordable housing and the other half private. More than 2,000 square metres of green roof will be added, enhancing flora and fauna. About 5,500 square metres of shopping space is planned, linked to Upper Street by an entrance at the former Mitre public house. Office space is proposed for the basement, ground and first floors, immediately to the rear of Almeida Theatre. It is hoped work will start early next year. The exhibition, opposite The Mitre pub, at 129 Upper Street, is open from 10am to 6pm, Friday to Sunday. and until 8pm on May 21. It finishes on May 24. |
