Sacked headteacher fails to register appeal
THE headteacher dismissed by an Islington school for “gross misconduct” has so far not appealed against the decision.
Jay Henderson, who was dismissed on May 1 by governors at Canonbury Primary School, was given 10 days in which to register an appeal. Leave to appeal expires on Monday, it is understood – and by yesterday (Thursday) Mr Henderson had not yet disclosed his intention.
His dismissal followed an investigation by a firm of consultants, Children Act Enterprise Ltd, employed by Islington Council following Mr Henderson’s suspension last September on the grounds that he had looked at pornography in his school office.
Mr Henderson, who joined the school in 2005, had been named East England’s headteacher for 2004 and was praised by Ofsted inspectors for his “inspirational” work at Canonbury. The school attracted the children of celebrated figures, including those of London Mayor Boris Johnson.
Mr Henderson’s case is expected to be referred to the General Teaching Council. |
