Restaurant fills afternoon gap
THE owners of a popular Argentinian restaurant in Highbury have won the right to open throughout the day.
Members of Islington Council’s licensing panel decided last week to allow Garufa, in Highbury Park, to serve food and alcohol between 2pm and 5.30pm. Previously, the restaurant closed in the afternoon.
The Town Hall heard how Garufa has enjoyed great success since opening last year but that there were some complaints from neighbours about loud music at night.
One neighbour said: “We can hear the music loudly, even though they have taken out the amplifier. The noise has been so intrusive it has made me quite ill.”
She added: “They are aware of the impact it has had on us as I have even come downstairs crying on two occasions to complain about the noise.”
The panel agreed the restaurant can play recorded music between 10am and midnight throughout the week, on condition that the owners install adequate soundproofing as soon as possible.
Owner Alberto Abbate said: “I am pleased with the decision. We understand we must carry out certain work before we are allowed to play recorded music at volume at night and we are willing to do whatever it takes.” |
