Match point: Rusedski opens Highgate courts
WORLD class tennis champion Greg Rusedski opened a new set of courts at Highgate on Saturday which will be available to school children in Islington.
The former world number four coached children and adults at Coolhurst Tennis and Squash Club before cutting the ribbon on three new courts, alongside Lib Dem executive member for environment, Cllr Greg Foxsmith.
Children from Ashmount Junior School attended the event, as did Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green.
Islington council has invested money in the private courts, which are on part of a sports ground owned by St Aloysius College. It means that pupils will be able to use them for training.
Mr Rusedski said: “The more sports facilities we have for kids the better off we are going to be because it keeps them away from truancy, it gets them to work harder at school and it gives them an opportunity to make a career out of sport.” |
