13m viewers to watch the fab Flaw!
10-man dance act aiming for big time as they prepare to appear on national TV talent show
FOUR years ago Flawless were practising their intricate dance moves to a battered old ghetto blaster on the grass at Highbury Fields, watched by a motley collection of local children.
Tomorrow night (Saturday) an estimated 13 million TV viewers will tune in to see the electrifying Islington-based act perform in the finals of Britain’s Got Talent.
Along with family and friends, staff and pupils at Islington’s St Aloysius College, which three of the team attended, will be glued to their sets ready to vote.
So too will Solange Goumain, founder and chief executive of the Urdang Dance Academy at Finsbury town hall, where two of Flawless are pupils and the boys have been busily rehearsing for four to five hours every day this week.
The 10 members, aged between 20 and 32, formed Flawless four years ago. Former store worker Marlon Wallen, 25, is founder and choreographer of the troupe as well as a dancer.
He admitted that the competition will be hot tomorrow night. Scottish singer Susan Boyle is favourite to win the show.
Marlon and dancers Nathan Kabongo, 20 and Christian Alozie, 24, all went to St Aloysius College.
Marlon said: “My interest in dance started at school. I’d like to pay tribute to teachers like Ms Whalen and deputy head Danny Coyle for encouraging me.”
The boys later met up with the others and realised they were all doing unfulfilling jobs.
With no money for rehearsal studios, they would head over to Highbury Fields on sunny days, where an impromptu audience would gather round and watch
“We did it for fun more than anything,” said Marlon. “Who would have guessed then that one day we would be appearing on TV?”
In 2006 Flawless won the World Dance Championships and later performed in a break-dance show at Sadler’s Wells.
Marlon added: “Whether we win or not we want to put dancing on the map.
“For too long it’s been seen as a background thing.”

I am a teacher of English at St Aloysius College and I am extremely proud of the 3 boys who have been at our school and all the other guys on the team. They are a credit to the youth of today and have inspired many many boys to follow in their footsteps. I remember Marlon coming back to school, after his GCSE's to teach the boys how to dance and he worked superbly with them. I am utterly proud and immensely glad that he has followed his dream and he will no doubt earn his rewards, irrespective of not winning Britain's got talent. Love to the boys in 'FLAWLESS'.
