Police ask for ‘crime postcards’
ISLINGTON Police have been inundated with postcards this year – but instead of being filled with holiday wishes, each one bears a big X marking out crime hot- spots.
The postcards, the first of their kind in the country, are being handed out by Safer Neighbourhoods officers, inviting residents to mark the places they fear the most on a map of their ward.
It is the latest effort by Islington Police to combat residents’ low confidence in the borough’s force, which at 29 per cent is the lowest in London.
Alongside each ward map is a space for residents to say anonymously exactly what kind of crime or anti-social behaviour they want police to deal with.
