Ben was ‘stabbed doing nothing at all’
ANYONE who listened to the way in which schoolboy Ben Kinsella met his “horrific” death must have been moved, a QC said on Wednesday.
“He was stabbed to death doing nothing at all,” Nicholas Hilliard, prosecuting, told an Old Bailey jury. “That’s it. Life over. No second chance. The end.”
Ben was targeted after a “who are you looking at” incident in a late-night bar near his home in Islington in June last year. The comment was not even directed at him yet he was stabbed 11 times within a few seconds – another statistic of “knife crime out of control,” added Mr Hilliard.
In his closing address as a five-week trial nears its end, Mr Hilliard urged the jury to view the evidence “in a cool and calm” way and not be swayed by emotion.
Sports coach Jade Braithwaite, 20, from Camden Town, Michael Alleyne, 18, and Juress Kikka, both from Holloway, deny murder.
A secret recording in a prison van of conversations between the three accused appeared to indicate they were all accepting some responsibility for the death, said the prosecutor.
Mr Hilliard told the jury yesterday (Thursday) that conflicting accounts they had heard from the accused “means that someone is trying to deceive you, make fools of you”.
The prosecutor said: “There is compelling evidence that they were all in it together and it was to be a knife attack for revenge.”
Verdicts are expected next week. |
