Teenagers throw street signs at passer-by who comes to aid of woman
POLICE are hunting youths who hurled street signs and bits of wood at a man after he tried to stop them harassing a lone woman.
The man, in his 40s, was walking through St John’s Villas, in Archway, when he saw the youths surrounding the woman, who was alone.
He stepped in to help but when he asked the youths to stop they turned on him, hitting him with street signs and pieces of wood.
When the woman threatened to call police, the youths walked off into the Elthorne estate.
The victim suffered minor scratches and bruising to his face and head in the April 16 attack but did not need medical treatment. The youths were described as being aged between 15 and 17.
PC Mick Murray, from Hillrise Safer Neighbourhoods police team, said: “We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, especially the woman who was involved in the original incident as she might have information which could help our investigation. “We are linking this assault to a spate of incidents. We know of at least three incidents of disorder involving youths and, as a result, we’ve stepped up patrols in the area.”
Anyone with information can call Islington police on 020 8345 3921 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. |
