Body found at ‘drugs house’

A REFORMED drug addict died the night he returned from a holiday in Mexico, an inquest has heard.
Lee Andrews, 40, died in March while visiting an old drug haunt in Mackenzie Road, Holloway. His body was found in an upstairs room after friends saw him taking heroin at 5am.
His mother revealed that the day before his death he had taken a taxi to meet his probation officer. At some point after that he went to the Mackenzie Road house and bought heroin in Caledonian Road, detectives told the St Pancras inquest.
Detective Sergeant Lily Benbow, of Islington CID, said the house where he was found was “very well known for drug misuse”. The atmosphere appeared volatile and agitated when police arrived.
She said: “They were under the influence of drink or drugs but they did provide statements. They did appear quite shocked.”
Coroner Dr Andrew Reid recorded a verdict of misadventure because Mr Andrews, from Holloway Road, died from an amount of heroin not usually associated with fatalities. He said that, while Mr Andrews had been a “user of drugs” in the past, he appeared to have been clean in recent weeks or months. A drop in tolerance most likely played a part in his death.
Speaking after the inquest, Det Sgt Benbow said that once she learned Mr Andrews had returned from Mexico she investigated whether he had brought drugs into the country. Blood tests proved the heroin in his system was not from Mexico.
