Faceless voyeurs
• C WICKSTEAD writes about Labour’s fast-encroaching national identity card scheme (£4billion folly, June 19). Each of us is to be photographed, fingerprinted, eye-scanned, catalogued and indexed. The goody bags of our intimate profiles will then be the property of the government, which can disseminate and profit from them.
We will be under the tiresome requirement of reporting every change of address and of being liable to a (maximum) £1,000 civil penalty for failing to do so.
Having our lives bared to countless faceless voyeurs will be like being permanently watched in a two-way mirror. For the rest of our lives. At our own expense. It is obscene.
