Children from Gillespie School explore their new play space and garden with Islington Council leader Terry Stacy
It’s a green goal! Primary school gets new play space and garden funded by neighbours Arsenal

TARMAC has been turned into a green oasis in a £30,000 transformation of Gillespie Primary School’s play space.
The new nursery and reception playground was funded by Arsenal Football Club as part of the development of the new Emirates Stadium and its surrounding area.
Voluntary, community and faith sector organisations were invited to submit proposals for how they would like to see the money spent and the Friends of Gillespie School – Home School Association were successful in their application.
It features a kitchen garden, which the school is using to grow a range of fruit and vegetables including potatoes, radishes, beans, lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries and herbs.
A new wildlife garden is also on the cards.
The new green areas of the playground are also being used after school hours by a Gardening Club, where parents and carers can get involved in school activities by volunteering to help maintain the gardens.
Arsenal’s head of community Alan Sefton said: “Gillespie School is one of the closest schools to the stadium and we’re proud that this new innovative playground is going to enhance the education of many local children.”
