Artist Stella Michael who will exhibit her work during the festival |
Stellar art on show in homes of creators
MEET Archway business consultant Stella Michael who is presenting her colourful abstract paintings in public for the first time this week. She is one of 30 artists taking part in an inspiring event that is turning run down Archway into an exciting arts and culture venue .
For the first time artists have taken over shops, restaurants and Archway Methodist Church and opened their homes to display art.
Archway Open House is part of the Holloway Arts Festival, launched yesterday (Thursday) and continues for 10 days until Sunday July 5.
The highlight is tomorrow (Saturday, June 27) when a special mini bus will take people from the Archway traffic island, opposite the Tube, to various venues – and on Sunday there will be guided walks to the exhibitions.
Some 30 examples of Stella’s works are on display at La Voute café, the Methodist hall, and the 500 Restaurant in Holloway Road.
Stella combines art with her work as a business consultant and a part-time inter faith minister. “As an interfaith minister I advise on and officiate at spiritual but non-religious ceremonies,” she said. With painting Stella says she can escape the real world and indulge herself. She added: “I don't like sitting around and thinking about it. It’s more like putting your feelings on a page.”
Venues are spread around the northern part of the borough to include the Methodist hall, La Voute café, Map Gift shop in Junction Road, North Library, Manor Garden Cafe in Manor Gardens, Freightliners Farm in Sheringham Road, Holloway, and Good for Food café in Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park.
Some 15 artists are exhibiting at the Methodist hall and an empty shop on the traffic island and several be opening their homes for their event.
