Council outlines plans for ‘heat to power’ systems

THE installation of heat to power systems in Islington moved a step forward this week after potential plans were outlined by the borough Executive Member for Environment, Councillor Greg Foxsmith.
The first operation could be at King’s Cross providing power to homes in the south of the borough as far as the Cally pool, according to Cllr Foxsmith.
Another would be at the Elthorne estate Archway, heating the Archway pool.
Cllr Foxsmith said: “The Sobell Centre would be another possible hub down to the Arsenal housing development. The costs for four sites would be between £1million and £2million but the money would come back as the scheme is self financing.”
Systems are already being installed in Stratford in time for the Olympics.
Cllr Foxsmith said that as time goes on more and more boroughs would be introducing these systems and it would be like a jigsaw in which they would all join each other.
