Bus injury: Man set to sue
A FORMER tower crane operator from Canonbury is set to take action in the courts following an accident three years ago with a W7 bendy bus.
Father of two James Stones, 43, from Callaby Road, was coming out of the Vue cinema on the morning of November 26 2007 when he slipped and both of his legs went under the middle wheels of the bus. He was dragged along the ground as the vehicle pulled away, badly injuring his legs and arm.
Medics treated him at the scene and he was flown by helicopter to the Royal London Hospital at Whitechapel where he remained for 10 months .
Mr Stones’ leg was almost torn off in the accident, an arm snapped in two and there were internal injuries. He underwent 13 operations, four skin grafts and three muscle grafts. He needed a wheelchair for several months after leaving hospital.
The bus driver was interviewed by police but not prosecuted and the company did not accept responsibility for the accident. Mr Stones, who is unable to work, believes he is entitled to compensation.
“There were six witnesses to the accident but my first solicitor decided not to take up the case for various reasons,” said Mr Stones. “I’ve a new solicitor from another firm in Lincoln’s Inn Fields now and he believes we might have a fighting chance against the bus company.”
Mr Stones is registered disabled and his leg has still not healed.
His friend Ken Howard, owner of Thomas Judd Memorials in Holloway Road, said: “What happened to James shouldn’t happen to a dog. His leg still has still not healed properly and I’m surprised he’s not still in hospital.”
A Transport for London spokesman said: “Clearly, it’s always upsetting when anyone is injured in a collision with a bus. Any legal approach to any of the bus companies which operate our routes would be treated extremely seriously”. |
