Toaster grilling: Pupils stage kitchen energy audit
KETTLES, toasters and smoothie makers squirmed under the scrutiny of a tough judging panel from a Finsbury Park school during a classroom energy audit last week.
A panel of pupils investigated how much energy household items consumed as part of a scheme to improve the green credentials of Ambler School in Blackstock Road.
Ambler is one of 20 primaries and two secondaries involved in Islington Council’s Sustainable Schools Support Programme. Schools set up green teams of pupils who will take charge of the changes.
Pupils have been making bird feeders and insect homes, getting to grips with the tastes and smells of herbs and growing their own food to take home in plant pots made of old plastic bottles. |
