Pensioner lay dead for weeks

A RETIRED secretary who was estranged from her children could have lain dead in the living room of her Islington home for more than a month, an inquest heard on Tuesday.
Police found Gladys Jones, 83, dead in an armchair at her Sutton estate home off Upper Street on May 6, up to six weeks after her death.
The television and oven had been left on.
Her daughter, Toshi Glasberg, told the St Pancras inquest that in the years before her death her mother had “cut off” those close to her.
She would not speak to her children if she passed them in the street.
Ms Glasberg said: “I last saw her seven years ago and once at a glance in the street a couple of years ago.”
The inquest was told it was impossible to determine the cause of death. A neighbour told police Mrs Jones had been complaining of dizzy spells and shortness of breath.
Coroner Gail Elliman recorded an open verdict.
