Clear up park mess
• I WENT to Highbury Fields on a Sunday morning to kick around a football with my young nephew. Before we could start to play, we had to first clear away rubbish from the grass so we had enough space without standing on empty plastic bottles or used food containers. And this was at 11.30am.
The bins around the fields were overflowing. Litter covered the grass on the park. This was still the case at midday on a Sunday, one of the busiest days of the week for the park.
The karate club, children playing football, locals trying to enjoy their picnics and joggers had to put up with debris from the previous day.
Does it come as a surprise to the Lib Dem-run council that we all like to use our park on a Sunday morning during the summer months, especially when the sun is finally out? Can they not organise early-morning rubbish collections, at least at weekends?
The Lib Dems and Labour are too busy bickering with each other in the Town Hall to worry about providing decent basic services such as emptying the bins. They cannot be trusted to look after Islington’s largest green space. Next May will give residents the chance to clean up more than Highbury Fields by electing Conservative councillors.
