‘Knife’ teen police swoop
AFTERNOON shopping came to a standstill on Monday as 17 police officers descended on a teenager believed to be carrying a kitchen knife.
Police were called to the N1 Centre in Upper Street just after 4pm.
Witnesses described seeing six officers holding down a young boy reported to be holding the weapon. A second boy was searched and released.
One eyewitness said: “All around the N1 Centre, Chapel Market and White Lion Street kids were being taken in by police. There was a lot of little skirmishes around the place between mainly girls but boys also. Then at the N1 Centre there were some kids making trouble and a lot of screaming. I saw the police pull a knife from one of the guys.”
