23 youths escape lure of gangs
GANGBUSTERS at the Town Hall say they have stopped 23 youths joining violent groups in the last year.
Action plans have been set up for 43 “at-risk” teenagers since the council launched its gang prevention strategy a year ago. Islington Council’s regeneration committee was told on Tuesday that 23 young people had been released from supervision after agreeing to “engage in education, training and employment”.
The council has set aside £200,000 to combat violent crime. Its new gang prevention team has four full-time staff.
More youth events are to be held on Friday and Saturday nights and during school holidays. |
