Going with the flow! Crowds flock to enjoy 23rd Angel canal festival celebrations
WITH dozens of colourful boats and more than 90 stalls lining the new £2million piazza the 23rd Angel Canal Festival was the biggest in its history.
Hundreds – including Mayor of Islington Cllr Anna Berent – flocked to the City Road basin to enjoy singing by the Canonbury Choir, entertainment by London Pride Morris Dancers among others, displays by Islington Boat Club and not forgetting the fresh home-made food provided by a local farmers’ market.
The Pearly Princes of Islington and Clapton were on hand as was the Pearly Queen Hackney. Children from Hanover primary school produced a waterside exhibition of paintings.
The event was in memory of the founder of the festival Jim Lagden who died aged 76 in March this year.
Beryl Windsor, volunteer co-ordinator of the Angel Festival said: “It was a wonderful event- the best ever. Jim would have loved it. And the opening of the piazza to the public for the first time was the icing on the cake.” |
