‘I just wish my dad would come back’
Daughter of murdered shopkeeper speaks six months on as police offer a £20,000 reward
DETECTIVES investigating the murder of an “entirely innocent” Holloway shopkeeper have offered a £20,000 reward to help find his killers.
Ahmet Paytak was gunned down in front of one of his sons and now, six months later, his daughter has spoken about the impact the tragedy has had on her life.
Elif Paytak said: “It was like the whole world just disappeared. It was the end of the world, basically, for me.
“I just pray and wish every night that maybe it was just a nightmare and maybe he will come back walking through the door”
Father-of-three Mr Paytak, 50, from Barnsbury, died at his shop within minutes of being hit in the stomach in an assassination-style shooting, which police believe to be a case of mistaken identity.
His son Huseyin, 21, was shot in the leg but survived the shoot-out, which is believed to have been between warring Turkish gangs, the Bombacilar and the Tottenham Turks, following a brawl in the Manor Club in Seven Sisters Road in January.
Launching the new appeal for information surrounding the getaway motorcycle the gunman and his accomplice used to flee the scene, Detective Inspector Joe Daly of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command said he hoped the financial incentive would “encourage” people to come forward.
Police have released CCTV images which show the moment the gunman leapt off the bike and fired into the shop, Euro Food and Wine on the junction of Hornsey Road and Tollington Road.
Mr Paytak, who lived with his wife Ayse in the Finsbury Estate in Skinner Street, worked part-time at the store and Huseyin was visiting him.
The bike involved, which was stolen from Camden in October, and is one of just 112 rare red and black Benelli TNT 1130 motorcycles in the country has yet to be recovered.
In July, police arrested a man on suspicion of murder.
He has been bailed to return for interview in November but has not been charged.
