Green energy fuels fantastic family day

HUNDREDS flocked to a Holloway wildlife sanctuary for an annual community festival on Sunday.
The 23rd Annual Gillespie Park Festival, organised by the Friends of Gillespie Park and supported by Islington Council, was opened by Mayor Anna Berent and Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn.
From the Islington Pensioners Forum to a local teen band and St Thomas playgroup, there was something for everyone, young and old.
For those people who liked to put their feet up and enjoy entertainment of a more gentle nature, the acoustic café provided some chilled out tunes and a place to relax.
There was also drumming workshops, West African storytelling, music with George Fiawoo and face painting on offer.
Environmental arts and crafts with Eco-Active and their solar powered milk float ensured there was never a dull moment.
As always, local charities and organisations were in attendance with stalls full of interesting goodies. Fantastic food was available as well as the opportunity to take a closer look at the park itself, with members of the Islington Nature Conservation Team.
Pat Tuson, one of the Friends of Gillespie Park and joint organiser of this year’s festival, said: “Even people who have moved away from Islington come back just for the festival to re-unite with old friends and get introduced to new ones.
“It’s a fantastic day enjoyed by the whole family.”
