Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 October 2009

Pond soaks up our cash

• TWO years ago I was approached by a lady in Whittington Park who said she was conducting a survey on behalf of the council on whether people would like a pond in the park. I pointed out that the park was too small to accommodate a pond, that it would be a constant source of friction between dog owners and parents who would object to dogs jumping in the water, and that it was a waste of money as the area had just been replanted with expensive turf.
Two years on, there is just a big gaping hole in the ground surrounded by fences and a lot of rubbish. How much did the laying of new turf cost and why was it dug up less than a year afterwards?
Who is responsible for such a hare-brained scheme in the first place? The culprit should be named and shamed and made to repay the costs of ruining our park.
Caroline Schwartz
Conservative candidate for the council election
