Christine Mullee |
Road accident victim ramp hell
A FINSBURY Park woman who nearly died in a road accident is unable to return to live at her mother’s home because builders have taken away her wheelchair ramp.
Social worker Christine Mullee, 35, is having to live with friends after builders on the Andover estate took away the concrete ramp at the Ray Walk house two and a half months ago and still haven’t replaced it. Balfour Beatty, who won a “considerate construction” award last year, are carrying out major improvements on the estate, including installing security to make the area a gated community.
Christine suffered major injuries and needed six operations, including brain surgery, and spent six months in the Royal London Hospital, after being hit by a car in Green Lanes, Tottenham, in March. Her mother Mary, 62, said there was a ramp outside the house originally used by her late husband John, a builder, who was disabled. “This building work has been utter hell for us,” aaid Mrs Mullee. “Apart from the noise they don’t appear to know what they are doing.”
A housing inspector from Homes for Islington – the borough’s housing agency – is due to meet the Mullees today (Friday).
An HFI spokesman said: “The work to increase the level of the pavement to Mrs Mullee’s front door will be completed by the end of Friday.” |
