Hoopz! It’s a basketball double for St Aloysius
ST ALOYSIUS School scored a double victory at the first-ever Hoopz Islington Classic 2009 basketball competition last Thursday.
The tournament, for pupils from Years 8 and 9, was held at London Metropolitan University.
St Aloysius beat teams from Islington Arts and Media School and St Mary Magdalene School to claim the crown in events for both years.
There were guest appearances from Choice FM’s DJ279, Guinness World Record Breaker Tommy Baker, who entertained with his basketball tricks and a performance from Islington rapper Ritz.
All schools that took part in the event received goody bags and T-shirts and medals as well as trophies supplied by Islington Council.
Event organiser, PC Matt Fletcher from Tollington Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “The tournament went really well. Islington Police are committed to getting across to young people the anti knife and gun crime message and informing them of the dangers of carrying weapons and joining gangs. ”
Tollington Safer Neighbourhoods team and Police Community Support Officers from Highbury Vale police station organised the event for London Peace Week to promote positive activities for young people aged 13 to 14, who are more likely to be involved in anti-social behaviour. |
