Probe into gun siege shooting

AN investigation has been launched after police marksmen shot Islington drug users’ representative Richard Hiorns in Upper Holloway.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to investigate last Sunday’s gun siege on the Kiver Road estate. Mr Hiorns, 44, a member of Islington Clients of Drug and Alcohol Services committee, suffered “severe injuries”. He was arrested on Saturday after being discharged from Whittington Hospital, in Archway.
On Monday, he appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of a firearm and intent to cause fear of violence. He was remanded in custody.
London’s IPCC commissioner Deborah Glass said: “We have not yet been able to obtain an account from the man who was shot. Until we do, we want to ensure we have control over this investigation. We will review our involvement at that point.”
